3 Artifacts.

One artifact that I would choose to analyze would be the movie "The Lion King." I think this would be a great thing to analyze because it's a movie that many people have seen as children and as adults, we would look at the theme and be able to see some of the hidden messages that are embedded in the movie. The characters in "The Lion King" all represent real kinds of people in society. Many of the characters represent gender, class, and racial issues that occur in everyday life.

The second artifact I chose to analyze is Internet dating sites. They have rapidly increased in popularity in the past decade, and I find it interesting that still, some people don't find it to be an effective way for others to meet. We could analyze how affective this form of dating is and why people do it.

The last artifact that I chose is the television show, "To Catch a Predator" on Dateline NBC. This program displays stories that are done on people who are looking for sex online with underaged people. Sting operations are formed in order to catch Internet predators who come to a home in order to pursue young children. They are then confronted on camera and later arrested. We could analyze what makes these people do these things and how affective the method used to catch these people.

Ideological Criticism

An ideology can sometimes be described as a "mental framework", but it can be defined as is a set of aims and ideas that deal with a person's goals, expectations, and actions.
The primary components of an ideology are evaluative beliefs. Some of the examples from the text book include Christianity, conservatism, patriotism, and immigration.

The book defines Neo-Aristotelian criticism as the first formal method of rehetorical criticism that is concerned with effect.According to the text, the three basic steps that are used when analyzing an artifact are 1) reconstructing the context in which the artifact occured" 2) application of the five canons to the artifact 3)assesing the impact of the artifact on the audience (Foss, 2009). The five canons of rhetoric are invention, organization, style, memory, and delivery.

An Introduction

Hello Readers! My name is Christa Clark and I'm a 22 year old senior. I was born here in Norfolk, VA, but I spent most of my life in Virginia Beach, VA. I am a Communications major at Old Dominion University.

Blogging just so happens to be one of my favorite things to do. In addition to blogging, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, listening to music, shopping, and meeting new people. I love to talk and make people laugh. Taking pictures of myself and my loved ones is something that I love to do, so I can always have the memories of the fun times that we have together.

My purpose for this blog is to relfect my findings from class and to learn more about Rhetorical Criticism. I also want to use this blog as an opportunity to keep everything that I learn and share it with others. I hope that I can not only learn from the book, but to learn from my peers as well.
